CARGO HANDLING GROUP’S NEWS AND INVESTMENTS
Hi there, We are all already on Christmas mood, but here comes the Cargo Handling Group’s news from 2025. In this blog, I will tell you what new work we are doing and what kind of investments we made this year.
UNLOADING AND LOADING OF SHIPS IN HAMINA
We started working on port operations in the Port of Hamina at the beginning of 2025. In addition to forwarding and warehousing operations, we unload and load ships in Hamina and handle and store various bulk cargo. Some of the work has been familiar, serving our long-term customers, but the new operator in the port has also been noticed. Our operations in the port have diversified and we have been able to load and unload many types of bulk cargo arriving or departing by ship. If you would like to hear more about our services at the Port of Hamina, please contact our friendly experts Mira Mynttinen and Jussi Toikka (contacts are here) right after the Christmas holidays.
NEW FACTORY BUFFER WAREHOUSE IN KOUVOLA
This year, we started a new project in Kouvola: managing a buffer warehouse for strategic heavy machinery, spare parts and supplies for a nearby factory. We were able to offer the customer a modern, warm storage facility close to their factory, as well as fast releases. The customer had run out of their own storage facility, but there was no need for an expansion investment, as Cargo Handling found a suitable overall solution.
TANK CONTAINER HEATING STATION FOR 30 CONTAINERS
Our Kouvola container terminal also underwent an infrastructure upgrade in the summer of 2025, when we built an electric tank container heating station on the field. Now, in Kouvola, we can heat (or cool) 30 tank containers simultaneously. Strategically important raw material containers can be delivered flexibly to customers 24/7 with our own fleet, also when the port is closed.
WORK WITH THE PAPER INDUSTRY AND FLAT GLASS HAS CONTINUED FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS
The handling of cardboard and other paper industry goods continues unchanged in Kouvola. Flat glass is also still handled in a customized warehouse in Kouvola. January marks the beginning of our 17th year in glass handling, and we have been processing paper products for about 20 years. Thank you to our many long-term and loyal customers for their trust in us.
LASERING OF TRAIN WINDOWS TO GET BETTER MOBILE SERVICE
If you travel by long-distance trains in Finland, you may be quite excited about our new glass project. In November, we started a lasering project of the windows of Finnish Railway’s long-distance trains at the request of our long-term customer AGC Glass Europe. After lasering mobile network signals can pass through train windows more effectively. During the two-year project, approximately 10,000 windows will be lasered.
NEW TRUCKS AND LOW BED TRAILERS FOR TRANSPORT COMPANIES
This year, our own transport companies TransPeltola and its sister company Toy-Trans bought a total of four new Volvo FH Aero model tractors. In the Aero model, the front of the truck is pushed forward 24 cm compared to the previous straight body model. This aerodynamic design has achieved lower air resistance, which means lower fuel consumption and lower emissions. Social media went wild when we told them about the platform that opens from the front of the Aero model. It can be used traditionally for windshield maintenance, but also for taking a break. There is a coffee cup symbol and a hole for a coffee cup at both ends of the bench. At Volvo, this platform is now called a break bench.
For special transport, TransPeltola purchased 3- and 4-axle trailers that can be extended to 20 meters and have a floor height of 85 cm. The trailers are well suited for transporting large objects and machinery. The trailers have a carrying capacity of 40 tons and 50 tons. Here you can find more information on TransPeltola fleet.
